Graduate Student + Postdoctoral Support Grants

OBJECTIVE: LUQ typically sets aside a portion of its annual budget to support graduate student and postdoctoral research needs. Through the rest of this calendar year, LUQ will focus those resources on travel, for purposes such as conferences and field work. A maximum of $2,000 can be requested per year per person, but larger requests will be considered if the need can be strongly justified. Nevertheless, funds for this initiative are limited and we wish to support as many applicants as possible. Therefore, it is very important that applicants carefully justify all proposed expenditures.

TO APPLY: Submit a two-page (single-spaced) justification for funding including scientific rationale and appropriate methodology (if applicable). Please make it clear how the travel supports research that contributes to the goals of the LTER program.
(https://luquillo.lter.network/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2018-LUQ-LTER-6-Proposal.pdf). Include a one-page budget and explanation of how funds will be expended (e.g., airfare, lodging, number of days & meals, conference fees, ground transportation, miscellaneous costs, etc.). Finally, include a two-page NSF-style Biosketch using the following link: https://www.nsf.gov/bfa/dias/policy/biosketch.jsp.

This opportunity has a rolling deadline, and applications will be reviewed in the order they are received.

- Applications for summer travel should be submitted by May 1. For travel after August 15, the due date will be two months prior to the date of departure.

- Submit applications to juan.garcia5@upr.edu and chris.nytch@ites.upr.edu

For more information or to inquire about funding for other needs such as research supplies, analyses, contact juan.garcia5@upr.edu and chris.nytch@ites.upr.edu.
